Day 13: Being Generous With Your Speech

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.

Colossians 4:6 ESV

CONSIDER:  Paul concludes his letter to the church in Colossae highlighting the importance of living a life of relationship with God and the world through both prayer and witness. We are called to be a people on mission amongst the lost sharing the Gospel by word and action. Paul highlights the need for us to share the Gospel graciously and with salt. The idea of salt was to include wit as we share the Gospel. William Barclay described it as such, “It is all too true that Christianity in the minds of many is connected with a kind of sanctimonious dullness and an outlook in which laughter is almost a heresy… The Christian must commend his message with the charm and the wit which were in Jesus himself.” We must be generous not only in sharing the Gospel, but in doing so in a way that expresses the joy we have found in the Gospel.

PRAYER:

1) Pray for God to open your eyes to the people around you who need to hear the Gospel.

2) Pray that you would continue to experience the joy Jesus has given you, and for your life, in word and action to express that joy.

Praying as a group?

Leading others in prayer is a great step in making disciples. We want to celebrate your and their faithfulness. For each person that prays with you, we will add 15 minutes to the 40.8 days of prayer committed so far.

How many prayed today (including yourself)?

Day 1: Reflecting On Our Blessings

August 1, 2024

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
