CONSIDER THIS: Resting in God’s provision can make us more generous. When was the last time you thought about the creator of the universe leaving His glory to come to live among His creation? Jesus did not have to give anything up for us. He didn’t have to leave His heavenly dwelling to walk with humanity. He didn’t have to give up His life so we could have life. When we look honestly at God’s provision for us, how can we withhold generosity from others? If you have surrendered your life to Jesus, you have been given God’s abundance. He pours His mercy and grace over you. He frees you from the bondage of sin. He frees you from the penalty of sin. He seals you with the Holy Spirit. He promises you an inheritance in Heaven that will never fade. He declares you to be part of His family, and he makes you a citizen of Heaven. Do you see why His poverty has made us rich?

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
