Day 23: Generous God

Read this passage five times over slowly. Underline anything that stands out to you. Ask the Lord why those things stand out.

Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!

Matthew 6:28-30 ESV

REFLECT:

What causes you to worry? Bills? Kids? Schedules? Appointments? Health? We are inundated with things that can cause worry and anxiety. In this teaching, Jesus asks you to stop and notice. Notice how the Lord provides for the birds, flowers, and grass. In what ways does Jesus say the Lord provides for these things in this passage?

Jesus says that if the Lord provides everything they need, He will undoubtedly provide them with everything they need. The lord generously provides for His people. How have you seen His generosity in your life? Where are you struggling to trust His generosity today?

PRAY: Go to a quiet place with a journal and pray over these 2 points.

  • Ask the Lord to show you ways you have experienced His generosity. Write them down in your journal. Thank Him for his generous provision.
  • Ask the Lord to help you trust His provision for current and future needs.

Praying as a group?

Day 1: Reflecting On Our Blessings

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
