Day 24: A Culture of Generosity

Read this passage five times over slowly. Underline anything that stands out to you. Ask the Lord why those things stand out.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Acts 2:42-47 ESV

REFLECT:

What stood out to you from the story above? Did you underline anything? If you did, why do you think that thing stood out?

In these verses, we see the early church providing generously for the needs of those around them. What did they do to provide for those needs? When have you experienced someone providing for your needs? What did that feel like? Were you shocked? Amazed? Embarrassed? Encouraged?

God’s people are generous. This is because God is a gracious God. God is so generous that He gave His only Son for you! In what ways have you experienced the generosity of God? In what ways do you see generosity in your own life?

PRAY: Go to a quiet place with a journal and pray over these 2 points.

  • Ask the Lord to help you see how you have experienced His generosity. Add anything to your journal that comes to mind that isn’t already there.
  • Ask the Lord to help you see how He calls you to be generous in your community.

Praying as a group?

Leading others in prayer is a great step in making disciples. We want to celebrate your and their faithfulness. For each person that prays with you, we will add 15 minutes to the 40.8 days of prayer committed so far.

Day 1: Reflecting On Our Blessings

August 1, 2024

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
