CONSIDER: What is your attitude when it comes to working? Have you ever wanted a different position, boss, or set of Co-workers? I remember a time when I was working in a job, and I was miserable. I would wake up angry. I would stand in the shower questioning my position and my purpose. I would work hard at my job but be unsatisfied with the results or my effort. I had a different experience and outlook when Christ began to transform me. My position didn’t change. The people I worked with were the same. What changed was my perspective. I began to see my workplace as a mission field rather than a torture chamber. I began to see lost people rather than incompetent or lazy co-workers. I began to see that the light I was given was needed all around me.
Although I am a work in progress, Jesus began to help me wake up with a new purpose and perspective. The job I have is a gift that God has given me. Working helps bring resources that bless my family and my church community. But my purpose has changed. I work for the Lord, not the boss of the business. God supplies my needs and out of his abundance. It has become obvious to me that I have already received my reward. I have received life, love, and hope found in Jesus Christ.
REFLECT:
How do you see your role in the workplace, the classroom, and the community?
Do you struggle to see your purpose when the circumstances are difficult?
Have you lost sight of the reward given to you, and are you working for a different reward?
PRAY:
Use these resources to help pray specifically each day.
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
